Built by the Dominique Perrault agency in 1990 and awarded several prizes, the Berlier hotel was the first building with curtain walls, with no structure or parapet visible from the street.
The refurbishment project is intended to guide the building towards a more varied use: creation of pharmaceutical laboratories, laboratories dedicated to materials testing, spaces dedicated to a business incubator, etc. Carried out for the RIVP, the refurbishment project consists of updating this industrial building by improving its performance in terms of comfort and energy consumption, while preserving the purity of its volume and the integrity of its envelope.
On the façade, the project seeks to preserve the qualities of the existing glass prism. The aim is to keep this façade while offering a thermally and acoustically high-performing “tool”. To do so, a second inner skin is created 70 cm from the existing façade, behind the restored metal sunshades. The façade also integrates the technical ventilation equipment and cable trays.
